Milk...contributing to weight gain and Diabetes?

I was counseling a diabetes patient the other day who was struggling and couldn't seem to get their blood sugar down.  He had stopped eating many high carb foods and was eating a lot of vegetables.  He was discouraged with how high his blood sugars were and he was ready to give up.  I was trying to put my finger on the culprit.  No, he didn't drink juice. But he did drink milk, and a lot of it.  FOUND IT!

Milk has almost as many carbohydrates in a 1 cup serving as a piece of bread or rice (15 grams).  AND most people don't just drink 1 cup of milk.  They usually drink at least 2.  There goes the blood sugar...just like a roller coaster, up and down.  Be aware of the carbohydrates in milk and how it can affect your blood sugar AND cause weight gain.  Remember, to keep your blood sugar under control and to lose weight, your goal should be less than 45 grams of carbohydrates per meal.
